Happiness is a core game mechanic that contributes to the progression of the game. Increasing a dino Friend's happiness eventually allows them to become Helpers. Helper dinos can utilize their Skills either passively or while being ridden.
Happiness contributes to a dino's Trust Level. At the end of each day, the Happiness Level of each dino is added to their Trust Level, then their Happiness Level resets back to zero the next day.
Raising Happiness[]
Every dino has a set of needs that must be fulfilled every day. By fulfilling those needs, their happiness can be raised (or lowered). A dino emoting with a shower of flowers or hearts implies a happiness increase, while a dino emoting with a dark swirl over their head implies a happiness decrease.
The following interactions with your Friend can raise their happiness:
- Petting them.
- Playing their Friend Song.
- Giving them a Pen.
- Making sure their Pen is the appropriate size.
- Providing appropriate company in their Pen if they are a Pack or Herd animal.
- Upgrading their Pen to their preferred Biome type.
- Feeding them a Plant or Crop with their favorite Flavour.
- If you know their favorite food item, it increases happiness even more.
- Feeding them a Poppin with their favorite Flavour.
- Exploring their home Biome by either Riding them or having them Follow you.
Additionally, herbivores do not like being in a pen with carnivore food. Likewise, carnivores do not seem to like to have herbivore food in their troughs either.
Some of these actions can be repeated through the day, while others don't seem to have an affect after the first initiation of said action. Once your Friend has reached their Helper Threshold, they will become a Helper the next day.
Thresholds[]
Every dino has a starting trust value, a happy threshold, and a helper threshold. A dino with a happiness value of 0 or above gains the Happy status. Meeting or surpassing a dino's helper threshold will change them from Friend to Helper.
