Checked Baggage

Checked baggage service is available specifically on long distance and regional routes. Please make sure to confirm that this service is offered on your train before its departure.

Baggage must be checked at least 45 minutes before departure at terminal stations and 30 minutes at intermediate stations. Please also be sure to confirm at what time the station opens.

For security reasons, please note that checked baggage is not allowed on board without its owner. Also, if you are planning a connection with one of our travel partners, please consult their website for information on their baggage policy.

Checked baggage allowance may differ whether you are traveling on a long distance train only or on connecting trains.

IMPORTANT: Determined to listen to our passengers following the unveiling of VIA Rail’s new baggage policy, we are gathering and analyzing their feedback to assess if and how we could better meet the baggage needs of our passengers. In the meantime, to ensure a smooth transition for our passengers, we are waiving the fees outlined in each baggage allowance on all routes and for a limited time.
